College Fears

Soon enough, I will be leaving the portals of my Alma Matter, and I will be facing a new part of my life, the college life. Thinking about college creeps me for I have these college fears and I can't explain some of those. Surfing through the internet, I found these top 15 fears of students as they are about to enter college.

1. The admissions office let me in by accident.
2. My roommate will be awful.
3. I don't know anyone there, and I'll have problems meeting new people and making friends.
4. I won't be able to cut it academically.
5. I'm really going to be homesick for my friends/family/boyfriend/girlfriend back home.
6. I'm concerned about my finances.
7. I don't know how I'll balance so many things.
8. I'm nervous about being on my own for the first time.
9. I don't know how to do basic things, like doing my own laundry or cooking for myself.
10. My health is really important to me, and I'm worried about gaining weight and the "freshman fifteen".
11. I'm intimidated by professors but know I may need to go to them for help.
12. I'm worried about being disconnected from my religious life, practice and community.
13. I'm worried about my safety now that I'm on my own.
14. I don't think I can handle all of the stress.
15. I have no idea what I want to do after college.

I got this on about.com and after reading this, I found out that I'm not the only one who have these fears. Gladly, I had overcome my fears and I had this feeling that I won't be alone, I'm going to make it through college and I will be successful after college.
To everyone out there who have these fears, don't worry! God is there for you all the time and you'll have a great time in college. :)

Networks: Standards Organizations

I just want to share what I've learned from our class about standards organizations.

Standards organizations are responsible for the researching, developing, testing, etc. the standards that made the Internet to what it is now. But what are "standards" anyway?

Standards exist for programming languages, operating systems, data formats, communications protocols, and electrical interfaces. Standards are important in the computer industry because they allow the combination of products from different manufacturers to create a customized systemWithout standards, only hardware and software from the same company could be used together.

Here are some examples of Standards Organizations:

CCITT (Comite Consultatif International Telephonique et Telegraphique)
This Committee defines international communications standards. The CCITT defined the standard for sending fax documents and the standards that define data transmission over telephone lines such as V.90 that allows transmission up to 56000 bps. After 1992, this organization became the ITU Telecommunication Standardization Sector (ITU-T).
