Science Project

Finally, the exhibit. I am really not sure when it started. It was postponed due to heavy rains last December 7.  Anyway, me and my classmates were really happy for when the students would enter the science garden, they would be astonished on how marvelous our projects are (*ehem*). We have worked hard on this project and we all know that our project is as nice as what we have wanted it to be :)

Texting Disorders

Mobile Communication or "texting" is one of best way of communication to us people aside from the internet. Teenagers have been addicted to it (including me :D) because it feels like we are not alone or it feels like we are still part of the crowd whenever we text and receive replies from our friends, from people we admire and from textmates.
But being addicted to texting causes disorders which are quiet alarming. While surfing the internet (specially facebook :D) I found this texting disorders that quite frightened me.

As A Girl Scout (2)

Finally, the proof of my success, our success. The moment I've been waiting for, the awarding ceremony for the Chief Girl Scout Medal Scheme.

Me and my troop leader went to Manila for the awarding ceremony which was held last November 14, 2011 at the Philippine International Convention Center. Our flight from Davao to Manila was scheduled last November 13, 2011.

Suicide Attempts : What are the Reasons that made people do it?

It is reported on news every now and then about people, especially the youth, trying to ruin their lives by doing suicide attempts. They are trying to escape a problem that seemed impossible to deal with and for them dying seemed like the only way out.
But why does one person tries to suicide when another person in the same tough situation does not? What makes some people more resilient than the other? What makes a person unable to see another way out of a bad situation besides ending his or her life? These people who commit suicide have depression. They try to end their lives because they might be trying to escape feeling of rejection, hurt or loss. They might be angry, ashamed, or guilty about something, some may be worried about disappointing friends or family members and some may feel unwanted, unloved, victimized, or like they’re a burden to others.
To keep people from doing suicide attempts, let’s make them feel that they are loved and that they are important to us in many ways. We might be able to change their minds and be able to help them put their problems in perspective and find a way to make them carry on with determination and hope.

CourseLab

CourseLab is a powerful, yet easy-to-use, e-learning authoring tool that offers programming-free WYSIWYG environment for creating high-quality interactive e-learning content which can be published on the Internet, Learning Management Systems (LMS), CD-ROMS and other devices.
Yesterday, our TVE teacher taught us stuff about CourseLab. Today, we tried to create our own. I got excited but also got confused because even though our teacher taught us stuff about that, I forgot some and I still have to figure out many of its features. I'm still working it out, still learning it's features and I do hope I won't get frustrated and that finishing it won't take long :)

All Soul's Day

All soul's day, sometimes called the "Day of the Dead", is always celebrated on November 2 of the year. It is the day of remembrance to our friends and loved ones who passed away. People usually visit the grave of their late loved ones on cemeteries or offer prayers to them.

Celebrating All Soul's Day isn't  new to our family because we have been visiting the grave of our beloved ones on cemeteries for years. This year, just like the past years, we visited our grandparents' and uncles' grave together with our relatives. We lighted our candles and offered prayers for them, we hang out for a while, ate "biko", chatted a little bit and went home for lunch. Even though we have a lot of things to do, we still spend time to remember them.

My "Tambayan"

Windelyn, me (acting busy that day), && Regil :)
"My Seat" inside the classroom is where I usually spend most of my time. I've considered it "my spot (tambayan)" in the school.

When I"m alone and silent, I just sit and chill and watch my classmates so noisy, doing many things, acting all busy and stuff. But whenever my seatmates are beside me, my talkative side shows up :D. I talk with them like there's no tomorrow.

I like being at my seat for when I get serious and busy, I can concentrate on what I am doing and I do feel comfortable being at the back of the classroom, away from civilization (my classmates) when I feel like being quiet and behave :D.

All About Geothermal Energy

Last October 12, 2011, Mr. John "JT" Traller came to visit our school to discuss and inform us more about geothermal energy. He is one of the workers of the Calpine Company, a company who distributes geothermal energy.

Geothermal energy is the heat energy in the Earth. Inside the Earth, magma (hot molten rock) is continuously being formed. It can rise near the surface. As the magma slowly cools, its heat is transferred to the rocks around it. The heat is called geothermal energy.

He also discussed the processes on how their company gets the energy, the types of machinery they use and a lot of other things. He also shared some inspirational messages to us, on how are we going to achieve our goals in life.

as a Girl Scout

I've been a Girl Scout for almost 9 years, since I was in grade school. I have joined encampments, going to places away from home. I have learned how to make new friends, to mingle with other people. Fun activities, tiresome days and sleepless nights (busy talking with friends :D) during encampments, going to different places, meeting new people, these are some of the experiences I had as a Girl Scout.

I have never felt the true essence of scouting for I am also busy joining other activities in school and I am only active when encampment comes :). I never knew what scouting really is until last year, when I joined the Chief Girl Scout Medal Scheme (CGSMS).

This is a project given to girl scouts interested enough to face the tasks and responsibilities by helping others through a 1 year community service. There are different categories and tasks concerning community service. My project was all about Health - "Help Children Grow" (Feeding Growth Monitoring). The goal is to lessen the malnutrition in the community if we can't eradicate it. All I have to do was to: (a) choose a community or a "purok", (b) talk to people who might be concerned of the project, (c) pick out children who will be beneficiaries of the said project, (d) conduct feeding sessions every Saturdays of the month, (e) conduct meetings to parents and purok officials, (f) make reports, (g) meet deadlines, (h) take pictures, (i) conduct lectures during feeding sessions, (j) ask for solicitations that could help the program and a lot more. Of course, I have my workgroup, my friends and my teacher to help me along the way.

Natural Calamities: Are We To Be Blamed?

Storms and other natural calamities are phenomenons brought by nature. It is normal in our country to experience these events as they come and go every year.
Over these past few months, storms have been in and out of our country consecutively causing massive floods, threatening lives, and leave marks of destruction and heartaches to many people. We can hear over the news about lives lost and people suffering sickness and hunger. Government has been passing out help and relief goods to those living in areas affected by storms and floods, drills and safety precautions have been demonstrated and were given, but still, many suffer and died.

My Experience as a First Time Blogger

Blogging is one of the stuff I am curious about during the past years. Having heard about this made me feel like wanting to have a blog, to create one. Frustrated, for I do not no how to create one. Luckily, as I have reached the fourth level of high school, our teacher taught us on the ways of blogging, how to create one and what are on its features.
As a first time blogger, i found blogging as an interesting thing to do. I can express freely my thoughts and opinions and i can connect with my friends online, reading their posts about what they feel and stuff.
Through blogging, I can say what's going through my mind without the fear of humiliation for the world doesn't know my name, only my friends does (but actually, i do think about what others might think of me, so I do not express all of my thoughts, I just choose them to avoid humiliation . haha :D )
Anyways, its nice to have a blog and it really keeps me busy during my free time. :)

College Fears

Soon enough, I will be leaving the portals of my Alma Matter, and I will be facing a new part of my life, the college life. Thinking about college creeps me for I have these college fears and I can't explain some of those. Surfing through the internet, I found these top 15 fears of students as they are about to enter college.

1. The admissions office let me in by accident.
2. My roommate will be awful.
3. I don't know anyone there, and I'll have problems meeting new people and making friends.
4. I won't be able to cut it academically.
5. I'm really going to be homesick for my friends/family/boyfriend/girlfriend back home.
6. I'm concerned about my finances.
7. I don't know how I'll balance so many things.
8. I'm nervous about being on my own for the first time.
9. I don't know how to do basic things, like doing my own laundry or cooking for myself.
10. My health is really important to me, and I'm worried about gaining weight and the "freshman fifteen".
11. I'm intimidated by professors but know I may need to go to them for help.
12. I'm worried about being disconnected from my religious life, practice and community.
13. I'm worried about my safety now that I'm on my own.
14. I don't think I can handle all of the stress.
15. I have no idea what I want to do after college.

I got this on about.com and after reading this, I found out that I'm not the only one who have these fears. Gladly, I had overcome my fears and I had this feeling that I won't be alone, I'm going to make it through college and I will be successful after college.
To everyone out there who have these fears, don't worry! God is there for you all the time and you'll have a great time in college. :)

Networks: Standards Organizations

I just want to share what I've learned from our class about standards organizations.

Standards organizations are responsible for the researching, developing, testing, etc. the standards that made the Internet to what it is now. But what are "standards" anyway?

Standards exist for programming languages, operating systems, data formats, communications protocols, and electrical interfaces. Standards are important in the computer industry because they allow the combination of products from different manufacturers to create a customized systemWithout standards, only hardware and software from the same company could be used together.

Here are some examples of Standards Organizations:

CCITT (Comite Consultatif International Telephonique et Telegraphique)
This Committee defines international communications standards. The CCITT defined the standard for sending fax documents and the standards that define data transmission over telephone lines such as V.90 that allows transmission up to 56000 bps. After 1992, this organization became the ITU Telecommunication Standardization Sector (ITU-T).
